As you might know China, Greece, Egypt all have ancient manuscripts
on medicinal plant, and among all of them India
has the oldest widely known as Ayurveda medicines. There are many successful studies and researches on
it. Bharat is the land of natural herbs and plants since ancient times. Even
in Hinduism, they worship many medicinal plants like Tulsi, Beal Leaves,
Banana Leaves etc.
Below is the list of plants having medicinal benefits which can be easily grown in your garden.
Some Medicinal Plant which treats common
health problems:
1. Thyme
It is an indoor plant
which does not require much attention, just some light and water at particular intervals. Most people use it in cooking, it can be grown in hanging pots which can find a place in your balcony.
Benefits:
- Thyme aids in relief respiratory and chest problems.
- Aids in relief of cough, bronchitis and chest congestion.
- Keep mosquitoes away, if rubbed on hands (Disinfectant).
- Good for skin and removes dust in pores and makes skin soft.
- Boosted feelings of well-being (great refresher to have in morning).
- Can be added in diet, to keep blood pure. (Good for heart ❤).
2. Sage
Its genus name is "Salvia", which symbolize "heal". It is an easy to grow plant. If we just give it adequate amount of water, light and some good soil, it will nurture fabulously. It is one of those plants which will boost your moral to grow more plants as requires less care.
Benefits:
- Reduces the symptoms of Alzheimer’s
- Lowers the blood glucose and cholesterol level in body
3. Lavender
This plant needs more effort and a proper roof space, It demands more care in proper duration and is the most fragrant medicinal plants.
Benefit:
- If you keep some lavender beside your bed, it helps to have a restful sleep and avoid diseases like Insomnia.
- Plays a boosting role in maintaining nervousness, stomach issues, headache, nerve problems, stress and restlessness.
- A natural remedy for pain. Works as a pain reliever.
4. Ajwain
Many Indian Moms would be familiar with this plant which looks like a money plant and grows in direct sunlight and have ridged leaves, which need trimming on intervals.

- Treat stomach problems like ulcer and peptic.
- Reduces blood pressure.
- Reduce cholesterol level.
- Enhances digestion.

1. Echinacea
It is known as the father of medicinal plants, which works in every area. It usually grows easily if you just give it proper light.

- Works on infection like a magic lotion, especially on sinusitis, vaginal yeast infection and ear 👂 infection.
- Helps in treating colon cancer and athlete foot.
2. Curry Leaf
It is used in various dishes, mostly royal dishes and are used from a long time back. Our Grandfather
used to tell, it's a must have plant and its leaves are often used while cooking. It can be grown in moderate
climate at roof provided with regular interval of water and gloomy soil.

- Cures dysentery and constipation
- Plays a key role in reducing diabetes problems.

3. Basil
Basil grows in well drained soil, needs regular watering. It also needs to be fertilized once a month but if you are successful to grow these plants, note that you will get a miraculous plant which provides with the fresh oxygenated air.

Some Medicinal Plant which increases the beauty
and can be consumed at home:
1. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is one of the oldest medicinal plant and also one the easiest plant to grow in the home. All you need is a small bucket and some light and you are done, It has spines and also slimy barks from the inside which can be used by removing the juice.
Benefits:
- Beautify the face and can also be used as gel.
- Drinking Aloe Vera juice increase the immunity, drop blood pressure and diabetes.
- Smooths hair, removes dandruff and strengthen it from the roots.
- Soothes the skin in injuries burning, irritations on skins
due to cut or bites of insects. It minimizes the swelling.
2. Bay Leaves
It need a well-drained soil, places where more rain happen
or even you have some gardening habits you can grow Bay leaves with generous
amount of compost, the left over vegetables waste will be a good option, it is being eaten in.

- Treats dandruff.
- Treats boils and joint pain.
- Great syrup if boiled with tea.
- Contains Vitamin -A, Vitamin-C, Vitamin-B6 , Calcium and Manganese.
3. Coriander
Similar to Bay Leaves and Coriander, needs watering and fertilizing. It is one of the most common things on which Indian moms often fight on bargain for free. In Hindi it is called “Dhaniya”. Contain Vitamin-K , Vitamin-C, Calcium , Potassium, Thiamine, Protein, Carotene , Phosphorus.

- Stimulates the insulin secretion which lowers the level of blood sugar.
- Lowers cholesterol level, treats bowel movements, and promotes good liver function.
- Works as antioxidants for eyes and help to cure Anemia.
- Reduces the chances of Alzheimer’s.
4. Mint
Mint grows in warm temperature, bright sunlight and watery
or moist soil. They are basically used for their cooling sensation they have.

- Gives a special flavor so used for garnishing and can make Indians' favorite chutney.
- Improves brain functions.
- Helps in digestion.
- Relaxes from cold congestion of chest.

5. Mustard
Usually grown in large fields but in regular practice can be grown on roof tops in small scale. Needs moderate watering on regular intervals and exposure to full sunlight. Mustard flowers of yellow color attracts butterflies, which are hard to find in cities. Provides a great atmosphere on the roof.

6. Tulsi
Tulsi is found in every house of Indian subcontinent and is the most religious plant which is being worshiped since a long time. The list of its benefit cannot be expressed in words, it can only be felt. You just take one leave of Tulsi every day and I can promise you that your sickness vanishes. It can be grown very easily and only need some water daily.
Benefit:
- Reduces cholesterol and blood pressure.
- Treats asthma, cold, cough, headaches
- Treats arthritis and diabetes.
- Cures digestion related problems, sinusitis, gastric disorder, cramps and ulcers.
There are total 8000 medicinal plants, which are registered and is being studied by Ayurvedic doctors. People today, mostly depend on Chemical medicines to cure them which is also good at some point, but if you are healthy and consume these leaves, there is less chance that you will need those chemical filled medicines. It is like "Prevention is better than cure", Give it a thought.
