It was after COVID-19 outbreak declared as global Pandemic, many countries imposed lockdown to contain the spread of the disease. A lockdown or in better terms self quarantine is a very new concept for the normal human having a social life. Thus, the case of anxiety and stress due to the lockdown has recorded a very significant rise. This is something we all are well aware of. Now, lets have a look at how to manage this anxiety and stress.
1. Relabel "I am stuck" to "Finally I can focus on myself":
If you have a work from home job right now, then consider yourself as the luckiest. You have your job and enough time to give to yourself. You can use your day very efficiently now with a lot of "me time", So rather thinking of being stuck or when to get back to life again u can utilize this time for your benefit. If you do not have a job, then you are provided with an opportunity to start up a new job. You can start your own website or follow your passion and turn it into profit. 2. Follow the normal routine:
Keep your routine same as the usual ones you followed prior to lockdown. This means wake up and sleep in the usual time you used to. Follow the same diet routine too. /it will give your mind a stability and comfort.
3. Avoid overdose of news:
Keep a note on the updates, but avoid over filling yourself with COVID-19 situation as it will create more panic and disturbance in your mind which will lead to anxiety. Staying away from rumors help to have a healthy mind.
4. A disturbed home lead to a disturbed mind:
Your surrounding plays a very vital role on your mind. Keep your surrounding arranged and clean so that your brain perceive positive vibes and your thought process get channelized in the positive direction. A chaotic room would create chaotic thoughts. Therefore, clean your room daily and keep things arranged.
5. Develop a new quarantine habit:
Why not use the newfound time to do something new and productive which would make you look forward to the next day? For example, you can start writing journals or sketching or anything that interests you and keep you indulged and let your mind stay active and involved.
6. Talk to friends or write a journal:
If you feel uneasy at times, call up your friends and have a chit chat or take out a diary and start writing down your emotions. Letting out your emotions helps a lot to heal and calm the mind. Find a way to let it out. Some also prefer sketching or drawing to let their stress out. If you are skilled with that then you can practice these methods too.
7.Meditate:
The most important and effective practice to keep your mind healthy is meditation. Make some room in a calm corner of your house, sit and focus on your surroundings. Focus on every little sound in detail. Get into a relaxed and calm state and think of all good memories you have. It gives you immense happiness and calmness and helps to silent the noise inside mind.
8. Seek telehealth consultancy if needed:
If you still feel unwell then take up the initiative to seek help from counselors. You can find the contact information of one, very easily on internet. It's okay to seek outside help and there is nothing wrong in that. Don't let the social prejudice refrain you from doing the right thing for yourself. Always remember it's better safe than sorry. Take up the initiative before anxiety digs deep into your brain.
Finding peace and letting go of illusion will help fight anxiety in this difficult situation which everyone is facing in a global level.
